Essential for Living

Essential For Living (EFL) developed in the USA by Patrick McGreedy PhD., PA., is a comprehensive life skills curriculum with social validity, evidence-based teaching and measurement strategies and procedures, that result in the dignity and quality of life children and adults with moderate-to-severe disabilities and limited skill repertoires richly deserve.

This comprehensive curriculum identifies eight essential skills (The Essential Eight) where many of these children and adults display significant deficits. These are the first eight skills required to build further learning capacity and are sometimes referred to as the 'must-have skills'.

  • Making requests
  • Waiting after making requests
  • Accepting removals - transitions, sharing, taking turns
  • Completing required tasks
  • Accepting 'No'
  • Following directions
  • Completing daily living skills related to health and safety
  • Tolerating skills related to health and safety

At Arranounbai students are assessed to determine their skill capabilities and work towards attaining these eight essential skills.
