Sensory spaces
Arranounbai offers several sensory spaces for students to use when they need help with regulation and managing their sensory needs. When students feel overwhelmed or need a break, they can spend time in these rooms, which have different tools and activities to support their well-being and help them feel more ready to learn.
Light room
The Light Room is a serene, sensory-focused space designed to promote student wellbeing and self-regulation. It features a variety of accessible equipment tailored to accommodate diverse physical and sensory needs. Students seeking a peaceful atmosphere can enjoy gentle lights and light boxes, while music lovers can play the piano and watch the lights respond to their melodies. For those needing more active sensory input, crash pads and interactive lights provide movement and stimulation. The Light Room supports a range of uses, from independent self-regulation to guided sensory exploration, creating a safe and nurturing environment for all students.
Sensory gym
The sensory gym at Arranounbai School is a great place for students to play and learn in different ways. The sensory gym provides a safe and fun place where students can explore and develop their sensory and motor skills. There are lots of fun things to do, like playing with soft foam blocks, playing in a ball pit, bouncing on a trampoline, making an obstacle course, rocking on a soft armchair and playing on mats on the floor. The gym also has a hoist, which is a special lift, to help students who use wheelchairs get safely into the ball pit or onto the mats. This means all students, no matter their abilities, can enjoy the gym and have fun together.
Wellbeing room
The Wellbeing room at Arranounbai is a calming and safe space that is used in a variety of ways. The soft colours and furnishings welcome students into a place that encourages calm and relaxation. Teachers sometimes use this space for a whole class guided meditation or quiet time. Alternatively, it can be used for individual students who need a break from the noise and busyness of the classroom to help them settle and refocus. A student may choose to settle into the super sac beanbag, wrap themselves in the cuddle chair, enjoy the calming movement of one of the rocking chairs or simply relax on the supersized memory foam mat and listen to some gentle music.
