Learning
At Arranounbai we focus on each students individual learning needs. We have thought outside of the box and have incorporated a range of unique programs such as The Essential For Living Program, MultiLit and a focus on life skills to support student learning. Each of these programs have diligently been linked to the New South Wales curriculum and the National Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority) to ensure alignment with NSW educational standards.
Our teaching programs are designed around each students' Personalised Learning Support Plan, ensuring each student's learning activities are unique and tailored to them. The Essential For Living program has ensured that our students have the foundation skills, such as waiting and following instructions, that will support them in and out of the classroom. Our unique programming style directly correlates with 'Our Plan for NSW Public Education', focusing on “lifting outcomes for all students, while improving equity so that no student is left behind” NSW DoE, Our Plan for NSW Public Education).

Extension opportunities
Some students are ready for more challenges. We recognise and support potential in students with complex needs.
At our school, students can take part in special religious education (SRE). These classes are delivered by approved providers.
At our school parents/carers are able to choose Protestant Scripture based on the Anglican curriculum.
SRE is a whole school event held in the hall on Thursdays and is taught by Marian James from Frenchs Forest Anglican Church.
Marian has a long association with Arranounbai. For many years, Marian was a parent at the school. She has been teaching SRE at Arranounbai for over 30 years.
The SRE class is 20 minutes long and consists of a number of songs and a short talk or story.
Students whose parents elect not to participate in SRE will be engaged with meaningful activities in a separate classroom.
You’re welcome to change your choice at any time. Just use the online form to notify the school. Students will continue the same arrangement as the previous year, unless a parent/carer has notified the school using the form. All classes are supervised by Arranounbai School teachers.

Our learning approach
Our school uses explicit teaching. This means we clearly tell students what they are learning, why it is important and how to do it step by step. Explicit teaching helps students understand new ideas by breaking them into smaller parts.
Learning at our school is student-centred, inclusive and practical. We are committed to equity and access. We support all learning styles and needs. Our teachers use proven teaching strategies. They take part in ongoing professional development to stay up to date with best teaching practice.
Our learning approach includes:
- real-world learning: hands-on tasks, group work and exploring new ideas
- technology: to help students learn and build digital skills
- flexible teaching: the right support for each student, with a focus on wellbeing
- community connections: through excursions and local programs.
Helping students progress
We support every student’s progress by:
- checking their progress and giving clear and timely feedback
- developing with personalised learning plans for each student
- reporting on each student’s learning progress so parents and carers know how their child is doing
- providing targeted literacy and numeracy support
- making wellbeing part of everyday learning
- working with families to support learning at home and school
- helping students through transitions, like starting school or moving to a new stage of learning.
